Privacy policy
Last updated 25 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information Brand West collects through this website and through the websites we build and host, what we do with it, and your rights. We've written it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email info@brandwest.co.uk.
Who we are
Brand West is a web design business on Gloucester Road, Bristol. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us at info@brandwest.co.uk.
If you send us an enquiry
When you fill in the form on this page we collect your name, business name, email address, and, if you give them, your phone number and message. We also record which advert or link brought you here (the tracking tags in the web address, such as utm_source), and the date and time.
We use these details only to reply to you, show you a demo and send you a quote. Our lawful basis is that you've asked us to, so it's a step towards a contract you may want to enter into, and our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us. We don't sell your details, add you to a mailing list or pass them to anyone for their own marketing.
We keep enquiries for up to two years, then they are deleted automatically. If you become a customer, we keep what we need to run your account for as long as you're a customer and for six years after, for tax and accounting records.
Visitor statistics
This website uses our own visitor counter. It does not use cookies or store anything on your device. When you first scroll, tap or move the pointer, your browser sends the page address, the website that linked you here and nothing else. On our side we record your country and device type (mobile, tablet or desktop), worked out from your connection. To count unique visitors we make a one-way code from your IP address and browser details, with a secret that changes every day. We can't use it to identify you, and we don't keep your IP address. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how many people visit and where they come from.
This website does not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
If you're a customer: your website content
When we host your website, we store its pages, the photos you upload, and a history of the changes you make so that you can undo them. We also store the email address you give us for password resets and a scrambled (hashed) version of your password. We never store your password itself.
When you ask for a change, your request, the current pages of your site and any photos you attach are sent to Anthropic, which makes the Claude AI model, so that it can write the updated pages. Anthropic processes this on our behalf, and under its commercial terms it does not use it to train its models. Please don't put anything private in a change request, because the purpose of a request is to publish something on your website.
Our lawful basis for this is that it's needed to provide the service you've signed up for.
Who we share information with
We use these companies to run this website and our hosting service. Each one only processes your information on our instructions.
| Company | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website and our customers' websites, stores enquiries and website content, and sends our emails. |
| Anthropic | Provides the Claude AI model that carries out customers' change requests. |
These companies may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or the UK–US data bridge.
We may also share information if the law requires us to.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to us using it, or to ask us to restrict how we use it. Email info@brandwest.co.uk and we'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
